From stairwell cleaning to the ski slopes - the lads' group in Hulta have worked their way to their dream trip

Through a unique partnership with Bostäder i Borås, a group of young lads from Hulta have turned stairwell cleaning into a chance for friendship and adventure. Their work does not only mean cleaner buildings, it is also a first step into working life. Now they are making their dream of a skiing trip come true, proof that hard work and teamwork can turn dreams into reality.

In February 2023, a group of young lads in Hulta came together and formed Killgruppen, with the aim of building friendship and doing activities together. The group, made up of 5 lads aged 17-18, began dreaming of a joint skiing trip during the autumn. They sold biscuits and took part in sports events, but without much financial result. In December the solution came through a unique partnership with Bostäder i Borås, where the lads now clean stairwells in Hulta on Saturday evenings.

- Seeing these young lads grow, not just as individuals but also as part of our community, is incredibly inspiring, says Genc Avdiu, acting head of area development at Bostäder i Borås. The project is win-win, with so many positive side effects, and above all we give young people belief in their dreams.

The work results not only in cleaner stairwells, it also increases the sense of safety in Hulta. During the February half-term the dream becomes reality, when Killgruppen head to Branäs for a four-day mountain adventure.

- We are glad about a partnership that is about so much more than a skiing trip, says Thor Ngo, youth worker at Hultahuset. It is the step into a first job and it also gives the lads a sense of responsibility for their area. Another important aspect is the chance to break down segregation by making activities such as skiing more accessible to everyone.
