Free access to the internet for the housing company's tenants

Bostäder i Borås has completed a procurement of a new fibre network for internet, TV and telephony. From 1 January 2027 their tenants get a new open network with better service and better conditions for a wide range of services at competitive prices. The procurement means that all tenants are offered a basic internet connection, known as welfare broadband.

Bostäder i Borås has completed a procurement of the fibre network used for internet, TV and telephony in the company's properties. From 1 January 2027, tenants will have access to a new open network with more choice, better service and the conditions for a wide range of services at competitive prices. The procurement also means that all tenants get access to a basic internet connection through what is known as welfare broadband.

- Today the internet is an obvious part of everyday life, says Sophia Jonsson, head of marketing and communications at Bostäder i Borås. That is why we want to make sure that all our tenants can use digital services, keep in touch with family and friends or help their children with schoolwork. Today just over 70 per cent of our tenants have fixed broadband. With welfare broadband, the households that have no broadband today also get access to a basic internet connection.

Telia won the procurement, and the new arrangement means that a number of service providers are expected to be able to offer their services to tenants of Bostäder i Borås. Tenants will be able to choose between several different providers and subscriptions based on their needs. In the procurement, Bostäder i Borås set high requirements for service and availability. These include longer support opening hours and the chance for tenants to get help on site with installation, or if something is not working as it should.

- This is an investment that strengthens both choice and digital access for our tenants. We have set high requirements for function and service, while creating better conditions for competition between providers. We hope it will lead to both lower prices and a better range of services for our tenants, Sophia Jonsson concludes.
