The public housing company Bostäder i Borås and Hyresgästföreningen have now agreed the rent levels for 2026. From 1 February, rents rise by an average of 3.45 per cent.
- The rent negotiations are a balancing act, where we need to meet tenants' wishes and the properties' needs while also taking account of what households can actually afford, says Madelen Svensson, head of finance at Bostäder i Borås. During 2025 the cost of managing properties has continued to rise. Since rent is our only income, we cannot spend more than what comes in, so for now we need to prioritise among the measures our tenants want.
In 2026, Bostäder i Borås will focus on using its resources where they do the most good for tenants. Among other things, the company will continue to prioritise maintenance, to create a safe and pleasant place to live.
- We need both to consider our tenants' finances and to take responsibility for the company's long-term stability, Madelen Svensson concludes.
