Anniversary party for all of Borås - the housing company turns 100

Borås's public housing company Bostäder i Borås turns 100 on 13 December. The theme of the anniversary year has been to add a ”touch of gold to everyday life” for the company's customers. Now the celebrations are stepping up, ending with a party that everyone in the city is invited to.

- All year we have worked to give our tenants a little extra in everyday life, says Sophia Jonsson, head of communications at Bostäder i Borås. We have handed out breakfast bags and ice cream, shown outdoor films, built a multi-arena, offered discounts, held plant swap days, put on a photo exhibition, run swimming lessons and much more. It has felt good to surprise people and brighten up everyday life, and now we hope the rest of Borås wants to celebrate our big day too.

It is mainly Wednesday and Saturday that are aimed at the public. The birthday itself falls on Lucia Day. On 13 December 1923, the city decided to set up a public housing company. The following year the first property was built on Västra Nygatan, and that is also where the birthday celebrations start. On Saturday the courtyard at Viskaholm opens up, decorated as a cosy winter landscape with activities and performances, including by Borås artist Adam Englund and the Kulturskolan children's choir.

- Our aim is for young and old alike to feel drawn to join the celebration, says Sophia Jonsson. We have been an important part of Borås for a whole century, and we look forward to continuing to be a driving force in the city's development. Everyone is welcome here.

PROGRAMME

Wednesday
16.30 Start on Västra Nygatan with city antiquarian Fredrik Hjelm. Meet at the terrace of houses known as ”Färglådorna”, built in 1924 and the company's first property.
16.40 Torchlight procession to the Viskaholm courtyard, Västerbrogatan 8 B.
From about 17.20 at Viskaholm: anniversary speech, the Borås Lucia and a fire show.

Saturday
This is happening 11.00-14.00:
- Make wreaths with Fridas Blomster - for the first 100 visitors
- Toast marshmallows, nibble gingerbread and warm up with mulled wine by the fires
- Make lovely decorations for the Christmas tree
- Hobby horse riding with Odenslunds 4H-gård
- Write rhymes for your Christmas presents with Fredrik from Puls FM
