The public housing company Bostäder i Borås is offering free swimming lessons for men over 18 this summer. The company has run regular swimming courses for women for some time, and is now extending the work to men and children as well. The courses consist of 10 lessons held together with the Swedish Lifesaving Society, and interest has been high.

- We have seen that there is a great need for swimming skills, particularly among adults born abroad, says Genc Avdiu, initiator and development manager at Bostäder i Borås. We have worked closely with SK Elfsborg for some time and we can see that swimming ability is passed on. When the adults can swim, the children learn more easily too.

In total the housing company is offering 80 places on this summer's swimming courses, but interest has been far greater than that. More than 300 applications have come in, and the company is now looking at whether it can add more course dates.

- As a public company we have a large social responsibility. Working for the wellbeing of the whole of Borås is part of our remit, and swimming skills are one of many parts of creating a safe and thriving Borås. We hope to be able to drive this issue in the future too, says Genc Avdiu.
