New EU rules for food waste
Sorting food waste has been possible for a long time, but from 1 January 2024 it is a legal requirement for both households and businesses.
Under the new EU rules, no food waste may be mixed with residual waste. That means you as a tenant must sort out apple cores, peelings and the like into the brown paper food waste bag, which then goes in the food waste bin.
We all have a responsibility
The new EU rules mean that every consumer is responsible for learning enough to do this correctly. If everyone sorts correctly, together we can reduce our climate footprint. There is also a lot to gain financially, because from now on Borås Energi och Miljö charges a higher rate for incorrectly sorted food waste. That cost will indirectly affect you as a tenant.
What counts as food waste?
It can sometimes be hard to know what counts as food waste. Tea bags are one such example. At www.sopor.nu you will find the answers to what goes where. The guide is also available in 33 different languages here >>>
