Would you like to redecorate or change something in your apartment? Some things you may do yourself, while others need our approval. Here you can find out what applies before you start.

When we renovate your apartment

You can have your apartment repapered or repainted every thirteen years. Floors are replaced or sanded when they are worn and need attention. That way we make sure your apartment keeps a good and comfortable standard over time.

Before we renovate your apartment, one of our inspectors needs to check its condition and assess what needs to be done.

Would you like to request a renovation? Log in to Boendeappen, make a fault report and write ”renovera” in the description. We will then contact you to book a time for an inspection.

When it is getting time to renovate, you can visit the entrance of our customer service at Viskaholm. There you will find a selection of the wallpapers, paints and floors included in our renovations. If you would like something other than what is included, you can of course choose your own material and pay the difference.

Please note that we are pausing new orders during 2026 and continuing to work on the orders already received.

Damage and wear

It is normal for an apartment to wear with time. Paint and wallpaper should last at least 13 years, and floors 20-25 years, depending on the material.

If the apartment has damage or is more worn than counts as normal, you may have to pay to restore it.

You do not have to repair the damage straight away, but it must be repaired before you move out. If you do not do it yourself, you will have to pay for us to do it.

You may redecorate whenever you like

Would you like to repaint or put up wallpaper? You may do so whenever you like, as long as the work is done to a professional standard. That means the result must be of the same quality as if a professional had done the job.

You pay for the redecoration yourself. Do contact our inspectors before you start, and they will advise you on what applies to your particular apartment.

What does professional standard mean?

It means the work must be carefully and correctly done, with a result of the same quality as if a professional had done it. So you may do the job yourself, but it must be done properly.

What do you need to restore when you move out?

  • Changes to the apartment: Have you, for example, removed a door or a bath, laid a fitted carpet or replaced the hat shelf? Then you need to restore it before you move out.
  • Work that is not done to a professional standard: If the work is not done properly, you may have to pay for us to restore the apartment.
  • Paints and wallpaper: If you have chosen very strong colours or unusual wallpaper, you may have to restore the walls to more neutral colours or patterns.

Not sure what applies? Do talk to your inspector before you make changes to the apartment.

This is what you may not do

  • Drill into tiled walls.
  • Change the layout, for example adding or removing walls.
  • Alter fixed fittings, for example kitchen cupboards.
  • Fit a cooker hood or install a washing machine or dishwasher yourself. Read more about optional extras in A to Ö.
